Why I draw girls?

Generally, I don’t celebrate Valentine’s Day, Cat’s Day and this kind of stuff…
But today’s Women’s Day made me think about why I draw mostly girls? Because I am conscious that about 97% of my art content are women and girls. Why females? Why not pineapples, the inner life of cows, abstract landscape after family cooking?

Why girls?

I am not the only one who is still painting this theme over and over. In a matter of fact, it is probably the most popular subject in art history! The first art masterpieces which come in mind are Mona Lisa, Venus of Milo, Liberty Leading The People, The Birth of Venus

All these art masterpieces have more in common than the subject. All their creators are male. And no wonder! There is nothing strange in the fact that opposite-sexes are attractive for themselves ๐Ÿ™‚ Humankind is based on it!

But also female creators are fascinated by women’s world in the same way. Or maybe even more?
But I am not going to looking for conspiracy theories ‘why’.
I will tell you why it works that way for me.

Girls are prettier ๐Ÿ˜‰

That doesn’t mean I prefer my girlfriends than my handsome husband ๐Ÿ˜‰
But I can see how beautiful ladies are! And it isn’t a rare case when I turn my head when I see a beautiful woman. It isn’t also my idea to consider females as a personification of beauty, delicacy, subtlety, temptation, mystery, sin, riddle, wildness… All these, often opposing clichรฉs make women as a subject of art study so interesting!

Arches, elliptical shapes, arabesques – turn me on!

Maybe because I suck at straight, geometric lines? Or maybe because the world of nature is full of wavy shapes. It seems to be more natural to me. I just love all those excuses which female anatomy, hair, outfits give to draw arched lines.

The world of women’s emotions

Not the only anatomy is my point of interest, but also a rich world of women’s emotions, problems, dreams, hopes. All these are so visible on women’s faces! And I understand all these emotions so well.

We like what we know

So it is no wonder, that women’s world is so close to me. I know how it works (emotions) and how it looks (anatomy). The first portrait we draw is in most cases self-portraits. There are no more patient models than ourselves..

Clothes make the man ๐Ÿ˜‰

And female clothes are so much more interesting and whimsical. It gives endless opportunities to show a girl character through fashion style, clothes accessories. Female fashion is definitely more attractive to me!

Because I want to!

And if so, I don’t need more reasons ๐Ÿ™‚ If I feel joy and excitement while drawing a thousandth smiling girl, why should I change that?

Sometimes I wonder…

Sometimes I worry, that I am not learning and expanding my skills when I stick to only one subject. But I often like to make some practices and exercises in other fields (men, children, animals, landscapes). It gives me a feeling of freshness and makes me go back to my girls with even greatest passion.

And how things are in your case? What is the favorite topic of your drawings?
