Farwell to Winter Princess

I generally like winter. Mostly the frosty and snowy one, because it mercifully hides all the imperfections of the world. In the gray and white, mottling and dissonance are lost.

I don’t despise this rainy and foggy one either. There is nothing more pleasant than long, dark evenings spent on painting and reading (it’s a pity that you can’t do it at the same time! Fortunately, there are audiobooks!) . I stay in this melancholy creativity and I am in no hurry to spring cleaning at all!

Time to go Winter Princess

But this year it was enough for the sun to take a brighter look at the end of February or in March, and I had already packed the Winter Princess’s suitcases and put her over the doorstep without a second glance. Look what a puzzled face she has! She totally didn’t expect it, poor thing!

It was fun to get back to gouaches and long-untouched oil pastels. They are a very harmonious duo. I extremely like the rough texture created by the pastels and their specific smell, takes me back to the last time I used them (in high school!) ! I hope they will be in use more often! I have written about gouaches before – check out 5 reasons why you should give them a chance! It is my second favorite technique after watercolors.

Along with the Winter Princess, I would most gladly kick over the Instagram too. I took a month-long break and I’m terribly unwilling to return. For many reasons, which I may yet write about. Only can a freelancer afford to cut off social media these days? I don’t know if I have the guts to check it out.
