Witches 3D
My favorite thing in 3D is creating characters. My strong experience as an illustrator comes in very handy here. The heroines of this 3D scene are two witches, but only one of them is real. Which one? 😉
I wanted to compile two typical ideas of witches and the traditions associated with All Hallows’ Eve. The girl collecting candy for Halloween illustrates a Western tradition. The witch in a headscarf, striped skirt, and with a broom is a more familiar (to me) Slavic witch. Her outfit is based on the traditional Łowicz folk costume from my region of Poland. Additionally, she is the owner of a hut on chicken legs, which I also created in 3D for a different project.
The entire piece was made in Blender 4.1. While creating this scene, I finally tamed the Hair Geometry Nodes. Thanks to this, I managed to control the girl’s braids and the disheveled mess of Baba Yaga’s hair.
Once again, the whole piece is stylized to look like a 2D animation with a watercolor vibe. The materials are a mix of hand-painted textures, scanned watercolor splatters, and Vertex Paint. I’m especially happy with the background, which looks like it was painted with watercolors.

I forgot to mention the third character of the watercolor 3D scene—a demonic cat with bat wings and charmingly bulging, orange eyes.

Early stages
The characters were created first. Of course, the most interesting stage was posing them and having fun with their facial expressions.

I based the 3D character on my sketch painted in Procreate.

This scene inspired a whole script for a short animated film with these two characters. I hope that someday I’ll have enough time and skill to finish it. For now, the intro will have to be enough!
The animation of the running children was a big challenge! I hope I’ll be able to continue developing my skills in animation in the future!
