Deep Paint Workshops
I found beautiful 3D works by the Japanese artist Gaku Tada even before one of them became the cover of one of the older versions of Blender. I was captivated by their vibrant colors, lightness, and the impression of a hand-drawn sketch in 3D form.
Indeed, in his process, Gaku often uses drawing, introducing Grease Pencil into the scene creation process and creating his own materials. He created the Deep Paint Addon, which allows you to achieve similar effects. Of course, I had to get to know it. During the workshops that the author conducts from time to time, I learned how to use it to its full potential. I recommend it!
This is the first of several scenes created during the workshops. The hut of a certain Jadwiga. Most of the visible elements were drawn using Grease Pencil and transformed into 3D objects using the Deep Paint addon.

The watercolor-like blurs and gradients are a result of incorporating Vertex Paint and Voronoi textures, which create a colorful graininess. Additionally, I swapped out the typical 3D shading for sharper shadows, similar to those found in 2D animations.
This makes the final piece look like a 2D illustration while retaining the immense possibilities offered by 3D technology.

Baba Yaga’s Moving Hut
I also couldn’t resist setting the hut in motion and placing it in a scene inspired by the magical animations of Studio Ghibli. Fairy-tale themes, characters, and locations are definitely my favorite themes and aesthetics!
